More information

Buy bicycle is a big step towards an active and healthy lifestyle. Bicycles are becoming increasingly popular among people of all ages. They are bought by beginners and experienced cyclists. However, a new bicycle of well-known brands can be quite expensive. In such cases, buying a used carbon bike for a fraction of the MSRP price can be a great option.

Our second hand bicycle shop offers a wide selection of pre owned bicycles for sale. A mechanic makes sure to inspect and customize each bicycle pre owned before making it available for purchase. 2nd hand carbon road bike costs much less than a new one, but still has all the features you need for a comfortable and safe ride.

Brooklyn Carbon Bike Co gives you the opportunity to inspect your favorite models, take a test ride, and learn more information about the bikes you choose through one-on-one communication. While all sales are final, you will have the option to trade-in, upgrade or downgrade your bike after a future purchase.

Advantages of carbon bikes

This is a real find for lovers of speed and comfort. Carbon bikes are characterized by lightness, strength, elasticity. They have a rigid frame, which provides more efficient energy transfer and gives cyclists a competitive advantage over those who ride on a non-carbon fiber frame. The carbon material is great at absorbing small bumps in the road, is well repairable, and has a long lifespan. In addition, carbon fiber bikes stand out with their original designs.

Choosing a second hand carbon bike

Before buying a bicycle, it is necessary to carry out a thorough inspection. Start with the frame. It should be free of cracks, chips, and holes. Take the bike for a ride and apply pressure to areas of the frame. This will reveal any structural problems. Tap the frame sections with a hard object. If you hear a hollow sound, you can be sure that the frame is structurally sound. We will indicate any defects in the product description.

Next, check that the bike's drivetrain ("groups") are working properly. The bike should shift smoothly when you ride, feel when you pedal, not rattle, brake well, and not be rusty. Pay attention to the chain, cassette and chain rings. Over time, they are the first to wear out. You can replace or upgrade any component of the set if you wish.

Don't forget to inspect the wheels. The wheel should be straight (straight), roll smoothly, and have a braking distance without excessive wear. Road bike tires typically do not have a pronounced tread pattern, so a "smooth" tire is not an indication of a worn tire. Be sure to examine the tires for cracks. There should not be any.

If you plan to drive on non-asphalt surfaces, you can purchase tires with a stronger tread. Tires vary in quality and performance and are generally inexpensive. If you have your bike serviced at least once a season, it will extend the life of your bike and improve the quality of your ride.

Assortment of bicycles

Brooklyn Carbon Bike Co offers road bikes (currently 95% of all products), gravel, cyclocross or hybrid bikes for beginners, amateurs and professionals.

— Road bikes are used for long rides on specialty trails. They have narrow wheels with a small amount of tread, which allows you to increase speed. The handlebars resemble ram's horns. This shape reduces air resistance. The long frame helps to achieve a better aerodynamic effect. Have a wide range of gears that allow you to effectively overcome different types of roads. Low gears are designed for steep and long climbs, while high gears are used on high-speed sections. As a rule, road bikes are equipped with 2-3 front gears and 8-9 rear gears, which provides 16 to 27 combinations. This greatly increases the possibilities for selecting the best gear depending on road conditions and the speed required. The brake levers and shifter are mounted on the handlebars of the bike as close to each other as possible.

— Gravel bikes are suitable for racing on rough terrain, gravel roads and gravel. Due to the wide wheels, such models are able to pass on off-road. Such bicycles can have a straight handlebar and bent, as well as highway bicycles. The frame is longer and has sharper angles than highway models. Gravel bikes are usually equipped with various mounts for additional bags, flask holders.

— Cyclocross bikes share many similarities with gravel bikes. They are adapted for off-road racing. They are fitted with wide tires for better off-road performance. Disc brakes help to ensure good braking. Such models are fitted with additional brake handles on the top of the handlebars. This feature increases the comfort level of controlling the bike on difficult road sections. Cyclocross bikes have short frames. Aerodynamics goes to the second plan, giving way to the control of the bike. These bikes have a longer distance between the frame and the wheels. This design change prevents dirt from accumulating in this area, and if necessary, it can be easily removed.

Any of the above types of bikes can have higher-end components for «professional» use. People who compete in competitions try to buy the best equipment to perform well and stay one step ahead of their competitors.

For example, the Specialized Tarmac is a bike used by professionals. It can have a Fact 8, 9, 10 or 11 carbon frame. The Fact 11 frame is made of the highest grade carbon fiber and it costs 4 times more than the Fact 8 frame. Professionals won't go for the Fact 8 as it makes the bike heavier and therefore puts them at a disadvantage. The Fact 11 frame is a stiffer frame, which is important for power transfer.

The Specialized Tarmac can be fitted with a Shimano Tiagra 105, Ultegra or Dura Ace (or Sram quivalnet). Professionals usually use Dura Ace or Sram Red, as they need the best equipment to compete at the highest level.

Most bikes come with «training» (everyday) wheels, which usually weigh about 2.5 pounds. The first thing cyclists usually upgrade is the wheels. A good set of wheels (often made of carbon fiber) can weigh as little as 1.5 kg and cost between $1 500 and $4 000. You can buy used carbon fiber wheels in our store (usually $500 to $800).

In the assortment — models for men and women with average height. In addition, there are bikes for very short and very tall people.
